Napoli president confirms Koulibaly interest from Manchester United

Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has confirmed that Manchester United had recently lodged a club-record £95m for defender Kalidou Koulibaly which was swiftly knocked back. The Senegal international had been highlighted as the prime winter target for Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford before he was sacked from the head coach role.

Speaking to reporters, De Laurentiis revealed that Mourinho was keen on recruiting the French-born centre-back at the turn of the year but the club rejected the advances without any concern. He added that the Naples outfit have no plans of offloading Koulibaly during the winter transfer window, although the club can’t continue rejecting ‘indecent offers’ for their leading performer in the future.

Napoli Midfielder Talks Up Prospect Of Premier League Move

Napoli midfielder Jorginho has opened the possibility of plying his trade for a Premier League club next season. The Italy international played the entire 90 minutes of the 1-1 draw against England at the Wembley Stadium, and shortly after the friendly, the midfielder was quizzed whether he would be able to adapt to top-flight football in England.

“I think that I could fit. It depends on who else is around me - I need players with the same characteristics that I have. There are English teams with this style of play, ball on the ground, quick transitions, high pressure. If one of those teams wanted me, I could fit and the other way round. My football way is not a usual one,” he is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

Juve Close in on another Italian Title

With just three games to go in the Serie A season, Juventus look on course to lift yet another title and have a four-point lead going into the final games. With two winnable home fixtures, their trip to Roma may not count and the title really is theirs to lose based on what is left to come for them. Napoli have tried and pushed them hard, but unless we see a big shock in Italy, the 2018 Serie A title will be heading to Juventus.

Napoli had hopes of a title win just a couple of weeks ago, thanks to a dramatic 1-0 victory against Juventus. Napoli knew a win that day would put them back in the running, but left it until the last minute to score the vital winner. However, they were unable to build on that and lost their next game against Fiorentina, giving Juventus the advantage back. A big victory for the Old Lady over Inter Milan restored their four-point lead at the top of Serie A, and that is how we stand now with three league games to go.

NAPOLI MIGHT NOT REPLACE HIGUAIN

Hamsik Set to Sign

Marek Hamsik will be putting millions of Napoli fan's minds at rest within the next week or so, when he signs a contract extension that will keep him at the club for the next 5 years.

Hamsik has been one of the key performers for the Azzurri over the past few years, and is one third of the 'devine triangle' of star men at the club - along with Cavani and Lavezzi.

Whenever the Slovakian is rested ahead of Champions League matches, the Partenopei struggle to find their attacking thrust, which just goes to prove exactly how important he is to the team. He is obviously also a firm favourite of the fans.

In spite of being linked to some of the biggest and oldest clubs in Europe, Hamsik will be staying at Napoli, according to club President De Laurentis.

Napoli riding high

It may well be that a close-run game against Inter that ended up with Napoli dropping out of the Coppa Italia, turns into one of the greatest pieces of luck for them all season.

There is no disgrace in losing to the champions of Italy and Europe on penalties, even if you would have expected Ezequiel Lavezzi to have buried his chance to put Napoli ahead in the shoot-out.

In truth, Maradona's heirs created the best chances, and should have won the game long before the final whistle of extra-time went, with Cavani and Hamsik both going close to sealing a famous victory for the Azzurri.
