WILL JORGINHO WIN THE BALLON D'OR?

It's been 15 years since a player from the Italian national team last won the Ballon d’Or. Fabio Cannavaro scooped the award following an impressive year that saw him lead his country to the World Cup in 2006.

Only five Italian players in history have been awarded the most prestigious individual award in the sport. Omar Sivori (1961), Gianni Rivera (1969), Paolo Rossi (1982), Roberto Baggio (1993) and Cannavaro (2006). Jorginho could be the latest Azzuri player to be added to that list in 2021.

DE LUCA SET FOR SAMPDORIA MOVE

Young striker Manuel De Luca is on the verge of joining Italian football club Sampdoriaafter completing his medical examinations. The 23-year-old attacker has freed himself from fellow Italian football club Chievo Verona and he's free to sign Sampdoria.

De Luca completed the necessary physical examinations at Sampdoria after reaching a deal with the club. It has been reported that Sampdoria manager Roberto D'Aversa might even send De Luca on loan when he finally become a Sampdoria player.

The transfer update on De Luca was corroborated by Sky Sports Italia.

RONALDO: UNITED OFFER €28M FOR ATTACKER

Premier League giants Manchester United have made an offer for Juventus talisman Cristiano Ronaldo according to Sky Sports Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio. It was revealed that the Red Devils have made an offer in the region of €28m to Italian football giants Juventus in their quest to re-sign Ronaldo.

Ronaldo was formerly a Manchester United player after he played for the club between 2003 and 2009 on the back of his transfer from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2003 and he went on to spend six years at Old Trafford.

BELOTTI UNSURE OVER FUTURE

Torino striker Andrea Belotti has not made up his mind on what to do next in his career. The Italian international has the option of staying at his present club or moving abroad with the likes of Spanish La Liga giants Sevilla interested in his services.

Apart from Sevilla, Italian football capital club AS Roma have also been linked with a move for Belotti. Roma have a new manager in Jose Mourinho and the Portuguese tactician has given the club the thumbs up over a move for Belotti.

ICARDI EAGER TO SIGN FOR JUVENTUS

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) striker Mauro Icardi is eager to sign for Italian football giants Juventus this summer according to Foot Mercato. It was reported that the Argentine international has already spoken to new manager Maximiliano Allegri in addition to his wife and agent Wanda Nara dropping transfer hints on social media.

PSG have been active in this summer's transfer window with the arrivals of quality players like Dutchman GeorginioWijnaldum, Spanish centre back Sergio Ramos, Italian shot stopper GianlugiDonnaruma and Moroccan international fullback AchraafHakimi. To this effect, Icardi could see his playing time reduce in the new season with PSG still actively interested in more attacking players.

SPINNAZOLA TO MISS EURO 2020 REMAINDER

AS Roma defender Leonardo Spinazzola will miss the rest of the ongoing Euro 2020 tournament after he reportedly ruptured his Achilles during the quarterfinal clash between Italy and Belgium. The two teams met at the Allianz Arena in the German city of Munich on Friday night and the serious injury put a little dampener on things for Italy who are in the semifinals after beating Belgium, the number one ranked team in the world according to the FIFA Rankings.
